Well Shock Chlorination in Kokomo, MS

Well Shock Chlorination in Kokomo, MS

Shock chlorination puts a strong dose of chlorine into the well and the entire plumbing system, holds it there, then flushes it out. It is the standard first step after a positive coliform test, after pump work, and when iron bacteria leave slimy orange buildup in the toilet tank.

Kokomo, MS Well Water Treatment performs well shock chlorination in Kokomo, MS using unscented chlorine sized to the water volume in your casing. We measure well depth and static water level, work out the gallons, and target a concentration high enough to do the job, often in the 50 to 200 ppm range depending on the problem.

The process:

1. Bypass or protect carbon filters and softener resin
2. Add chlorine and recirculate through a garden hose back into the casing
3. Open every tap until you smell chlorine
4. Let it sit, usually 12 to 24 hours
5. Flush to a safe spot away from the septic field
6. Retest for bacteria a week or two later

Shock chlorination is a cleanup, not a permanent fix. If bacteria keep coming back, the cause is usually a wellhead defect, and we will point it out.
